Whiskey in the Jar
As I was going over the Cork and Kerry mountains,
well I met with captain Farrell and his money he was counting.
I first produced my pistol, and then produced my rapier.
I said stand and deliver, or the devil he may take ya.
musha ring dumma do dumma da
whack fol the daddy ‘o
whack for the daddy ‘o
there’s whiskey in the jar
I counted out his money, and it made a pretty penny.
I put it in my pocket, and I took it home to Jenny.
She sighed and she swore, that she never would deceive me,
but the devil take those women, for they never can be easy
musha ring dumma do dumma da
whack fol the daddy ‘o
whack for the daddy ‘o
there’s whiskey in the jar
I went into me chamber, all for to take a slumber,
I dreamt of gold and jewels and sure it was no wonder, f
or Jenny drew me charges and she filled them up with water,
then sent for captain Farrell to be ready for the slaughter.
musha ring dumma do dumma da
whack fol the daddy ‘o
whack for the daddy ‘o
there’s whiskey in the jar
‘Twas was early in the morning, before I rose to travel.
Up came a band of footmen and likewise captain Farrell.
I first produced me pistol, for she’d stolen away me rapier,
but I couldn’t shoot the water so a prisoner I was taken.
musha ring dumma do dumma da
whack fol the daddy ‘o
whack for the daddy ‘o
there’s whiskey in the jar
If anyone can aid me, it’s my brother in the army, I
f I can find his station down in Cork or in Killarney.
Together we'll go roaming o'er the hills of Kilkenny
and I'm sure he'll treat me better than me sporting darling Jenny
musha ring dumma do dumma da
whack fol the daddy ‘o
whack for the daddy ‘o
there’s whiskey in the jar
CLAPPING!
Now some men take delight in the hurling and the bowling.
Others take delight in the carriages a rollin’
But me I take delight in the juice of the barley
and courting pretty fair maids in the morning bright and early!
musha ring dumma do dumma da
whack fol the daddy ‘o
whack for the daddy ‘o
there’s whiskey in the jar
musha ring dumma do dumma da
whack fol the daddy ‘o
whack for the daddy ‘o
there’s whiskey in the jar!
